Post X: "English Language Challenges"

Hello everyone! This is the last blog session (YAAAY!). I am going to talk about how was my experience writting a session blog every week, which aspects I need to improve and how much I use english in daily life, besides english class.

My expierience in english class was very pleaseant. I mean... It was stimulating to be a class at 6:30 pm, when most of people end their classes and go home. The professor knew how to create an enjoyable environment to us, their students, and made a lot of dynamic activities in class, like create a screenplay in english to improve our vocabulary and oral expression in general. Also blogs helped me a lot to improve my english vocabulary and writting abilities.

I will keep improving my english skills watching TV series and reading books in english, because is always useful. I travelled to USA in my summer vacations and knowing at least the basic of english was VERY, VERY useful. I could ask for directions without any problem and also ask how to use the meter card without doing mime, sometimes I had problems to speak to people, but I could handle it anyway. Constantly learning english is really useful, even to read university stuff, like articles, papers or books that are not in spanish and are a good reference, you need a minimum english knownledge. English is an important language in all countries, that is why we NEED to improve or english, you can speak to people of foreign countries, like Germany, France, China or Neederlands, despite not knowing their languages if you know english.

See you!!

Post XIX: "Have I had a good first semester?"

Hello everyone! Today I am going to talk about this first semester.

I am going to start talking about the subject that I liked more this first half of the year. The subject that I enjoyed more this semester was a Monographic about the various ways of thinking the body throught art history. It was pretty interesting study the body and the different ways of representation. Each period had their own way to do that. For example, greeks and egyptians were completely opposite to each other. The first ones wanted to put harmony, beauty and movement in their sculptures, they did not care if the sculpture's pose was impossible to do for a human been if was harmonic, but second ones wanted to paint eternity in all their walls, because they believed in eternity; that can explain their hieratic painings and sculptures, they did not want movement or beauty because that can end easily, they wanted to capture eternity with their art. Now we are studying contemporaty art and is very interesting.

And generally talking... It was quite difficult, I have seven subjects on going and I can not say "Yes, it was easy", but at least I can say that I am going well despite having a lot of courses at the same time. It was a good start, I tried to study a lot to not have problems at the end of the semester. And I am proud of that now, because we had a very long strike, around two months. Nevertheless, I read a lot and did my essays, tests, and other stuff in time and had acceptable marks, so I did not have to worry now, because I can approve everything without pain. It was last year, we had a strike too, and I was coursing english 4 aswell. I could not pass english last semester because the strike was too long so I am glad to be avialable to finally finish this course...

See you!

Post VIII: "A favourite picture of me"

Hello guys! Today I will talk about my favourite picture. It was hard to dedide, but among all my favourites photos... this one in particular is so funny. It was taken in February of this year at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, United States of America.

I was there during my vacations, my uncles invited my sister and I to go with them to Disney. I can not put in words how I LOVE Disney since I was a child, and I was like a dream have been there. Also, I have never been in a foreign country before, so it was a brand new experience... I flew a lot of hours by plane and I have never traveled by one before, so that also was kind of new to me and my sister aswell.

This photo is quite special to me, because I laught a lot each time I renember how I ended in this particular position… We were walking around Animal Kingdom and stopped in a point to stay in queue to take a picture with Rafiki, from The Lion King. Two of my cousins took place on the picture because they came first on the row. Rafiki (Well, well… The guy inside Rafiki’s costume) guided my cousisns to take place on the photo. After that, he put himself in front of them, completely covering my cousisns. I truly enjoy doing ridiculous stuff, so I jumped to cover Rafiki, but I’ve never thought that the photographer would take a picture of that. Later I couldn’t stopt laughting… Even the photographer was laughting.

See you!

Post VII: "How green are you?"

Hi everyone! Today I am going to talk about how green I am and how can people become "green".

I am not particulary green, but somehow I am concerned about environment. For example, I can not see garbage on street without thinking in put all inside a rubbish bin, mostly because is part of common sense to not live at a landfil; some people can not understand that. This lifestyle or concerning about the planet is mostly because my family taught me that with songs, games and going to recycle bottles and other stuff with my mother and father. Since I was a child, I was surrounded by very motivating children’s songs performed by Mazapan, a chilean group which I used to listen in early 90s. There is a song among them about a rubbish bin wich feeling sadness because nobody puts the garbage inside "him" and intead  they throw it on street.

Here is the video <3.

I know it can be insignificant , but I am available to renember that song, so, it means that was relevant to me and my formation.

I’ve mentioned that because I think children’s early formation is important. We can not expect that a little boy who do not know is important to throw garbage inside a rubbish bin shall put his garbage into a rubbish bin in the future. It is the same with reclycling.

See you next week!

Post VI: "A technological device"

Hello there! Today I am going to talking about my favourite technological device: my laptop.

I have been used the same device since a couple years ago. I adquired it because, my previous computer died and, before having it, I was doing my essays and other university's stuff at home, on a quite old computer. Each time I wanted to do some work, It was really, REALLY irritating, stressing and annoying, It pissed me off have to work there because my computer's home was (and still is) really old (a 1995 model) and I could not even play Minesweeper or Spider Solitaire without imagine that machine exploding in front of my eyes, with all my university works trapped there. It was slow and internet used to get down... specially when I was sending a presentation, essay or any work which implied a good or bad mark there. So I could not bear it anymore and I used to complain about that matter. Doing homework was so hard without a good computer, I had to sleep at my grandparent's place to complete them, because It is not like I could stay at my university's library forever and I had to complete my duties as an university student.

Actually I use my computer to play a lot of online games and, watch movies, series and do my homework. I love my computer because it makes easier my daily life.

Post V: "My future job"

This matter is so difficult to put in words. I've finished High School in 2008, seven years ago; and now my time studying at university is will end soon. I'm a bit scared, because I'm always thinking about that "little" issue. What am I going to do after finish my career?, I do not know really, and is frustrating not know what I exactly want to do, probably, for my entire life (or a huge amount of years). It will be something about arts, for sure, but I can not say something specific; there are a couple areas of my interest to me, all related with patrimonium and heritage, maybe restoration or documentation, I like both.

"Cristo de la meditación", Granada

After a restoration

Before the restoration

And about my ideal job type, I want to make people happy. Some examples are, I don't know, maybe help with the design of index cards to register various pieces of arts in a not well known museum in Chile, or restore an important piece of art in a museum, or an antique from an old man who wants to repair it in order to renember her deceased wife. I want a job which can make my hearth pounding 1000 times in just one minute to after think "I've really helped someone. I'm proud of myself.".

These restorations tools will be mine... someday.

That's all I want, to help people and being myself at the same time.

Post IV: "My favorite song or album"

Hello there!, Today I will talk about my favorite song or album. It was hard to decide, but finally I chose "Enjoy The Silence", from Depeche Mode.

I am going to tell you a bit about Depeche Mode, before writting about "Enjoy The Silence". Depeche Mode is an english band founded in 1980. They mostly  play electronic music and the band currently has three members: Dave Gahan (vocals), Martin Gore (guitar, backing and lead vocals, keyboards) and Andy Fletcher (bass guitars, keyboard, backing vocals). These members are from the original five members who started to play songs as Depeche Mode. I like this band, the type of music they play, to me, is kind of advanced for their foundation time, even now, people can recognize a song made for them.

And... making a lecture of "Enjoy The Silence", I can totally say: "This song is totally my type!", like when someone falls for other person. The lyric completely describes myself. And the ambum which contains this song ("Violator") was relased in 1990, curiously the year that my mother gave birth to me.

Here is the lyric (obviously this doesn't count to complete the required words) and the song's video:

Words like violence break the silence

Come crashing in into my little world
Painful to me, pierce right through me
Can't you understand, oh my little girl?

All I ever wanted, all I ever needed

Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken to be broken

Feelings are intense, words are trivial
Pleasures remain, so does their pain
Words are meaningless and forgettable

All I ever wanted, all I ever needed

Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

All I ever wanted, all I ever needed

Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

All I ever wanted, all I ever needed

Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Enjoy the silence, enjoy the silence
Enjoy the silence

Basically, this song is about silence, quite ironic, don't you think the same way? I'm a quiet person, I say only what I have to say; no more, no less. This song, for me, is the same. Someone can speaks a lot of things, but to me "facts" are more important than empty words. Our world need more action and less people who endlessly talk to complain about the system, etc etc, and don't do anything to change that.

See you next week, guys!

Post III: "The best concert I've had"

Today I am going to write about the best concert I have had.

This story began a long time ago, when I was in eighth grade and, me and my cousin, started to listen metal bands; among them, there was one that I trully loved: "Sonata Arctica" a power metal band from Finland. I tried to see them for a very long time, but I was too young and I could not pay the chipest ticket, furthermore, my parents wouldn't allow an extrawaste of money.

This changed last year, when I met my current boyfriend. He loved the same bands as me, and, after saved some money to pay the ticket, we went to see "Sonata Arctica" with a friend of him; I enjoyed a lot, it was the second concert of my entire life. However, this year was completely different, because I knew that I could go the see them. Besides, this year concert was the last of "Sonata Arctica" in Chile, they won't come back for a while.

It was an amazing concert. They played my favourite songs, my boyfriend was there and we celebrated there eleven months together. I did not care about the crowd or me all sweaty, I jump and sang loudly, with a detuned voice, all my favourite songs; and I didn't give a shit of people surrounding me, my boydriend and this friend who also came with us a second time.

It was awesome, I want to see them again .

Post II: "My favourite artist"

Hello!

Today I am going to talk about an artist that I admire: Diego de Velázquez. I have to admit that I do not like much contemporary art, I prefer old school artists.

Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez, comonly known as Diego Velázquez, was an artist who born at the end of the 16th Century in Seville, Spain. He is an important figure to Spanish Golden Age of Baroque period, mostly, for his uncommon style of not doing a previously sketch before painting a tableau. Instead, he chose to instantly apply the bruskwork on canvas. When someone looks at a certain distance his paintings, brushworks or "color" becomes a solid figure instead a group of colours without an a apparently purpose. He was the leading artist in the court of king Felipe IV, and portrayed the royal family many times. The most interesting thing about Velazquez, besides his way of put only the color on canvas instead a sketch, were the way of portraying daily life and mythical themes at the same time, at the same painting.

I like a lot this artist and his way to portray everithing.

Post I: The country I'd like to visit

Today I im going to write about the country I would like to visit someday.

I chose Italy, which is located in the "ancient continent", Europe, and its capital is Rome. This country also is commonly known as the "Boot", because it looks like one. Italian ancient culture is the foundation of occidental culture, our culture. All the things we actually know are product of Ancient Greek and Roman culture, mostly the first one, but Rome saved a lot of Greek principles that we have as facts today. And is not only in Ancient Rome.

I do not want to just "visit" Italy. I want to study there a posgraduate in restoration, or heritage and patrimonium, my area of interest. But not to live there, because it seems to be very expensive when I was investigating about daily life there. I just want to study there one or two years, enter to various museums around the country, eat a lot of pasta and ice cream and then get back to Chile being wiser than before.

That's all!
